That is a correct pronunciation of the word. Mandarin is the native language of Beijingers and their accent is very heavy on /r/ sounds. For instance, the word flower (hua) is pronounced “huar” in Beijing, while the San Litun section of the city is often pronounced “San Lituar.” It is correct and authentic to the capital city and its language.

someone on Amazon claimed the Mandarin is the (dialect or accent?) of Beijing. They said for the most part it isn’t too much of a problem (just like the formality), just be aware that everyone will think you learned Mandarin in Beijing.

For instance, in the first lesson of Chinese, they pronounce the word “Yīdiǎn” with an “r” instead of an “n”. They sound like they’re Irish…the French lessons pronounce the Rs totally wrong too. Like Irish too.
